Despite the stress it caused on occasion, one of my favorite parts of planning our wedding was making all the decorations. I loved being able to put my special touch on all the important parts of our day.
To start, I made gold-glitter wreaths for the front door - isn't V a pretty initial?
For each of the key tables, I made custom signs encouraging our guests to interact with all parts of the reception - like here, asking folks to leave us messages on our quilt!
I designed our programs - both the formal version and a customized activity book option for our little guests (complete with crayons!)
For the altar, our parents helped us find antique doors for the backdrop (the center one is going to become our new headboard), and I made the 'I Thee Wed' banner to hang across them.
For the guest tables, I wanted to keep it simple. We went with plain ivory table cloths and cut large burlap squares for the overlays.
The centerpieces consisted of three mason jars (which I wrapped in burlap and lace), flowers, tea candles wrapped in Washi tape, crochet doilies, antique keys, and an old book or two (also wrapped in lace).
The books might have been my favorite part. We spent months scouring used book stores, flea markets, antique stores, and eBay (thanks, Daddy) to find ones with the right look and sweet titles. I wanted all the titles to reflect something romantic - "Sparks of Laughter," "Petals of Love,"etc. Finding just the right books became a family activity. Thanks for all the help, team!
I made a few changes for our sweetheart table - adding gold polka-dotted burlap, a lace-wrapped burlap V, and the bouquet I caught at Little Brother's wedding a few months back (that WAS what caused all this, right?)
We found these old window panes at an antique store in my parents' neighborhood and they made PERFECT signs - just added a little glass paint and a kraft paper backdrop and we had adorable shabby-chic menu boards.
The dessert table - wow. I absolutely loved how it turned out. We laid out the mixture of cupcakes, mini-pies, and formal cakes among additional antique books, keys, mason jars, and strands of pearls.
I made the cake topper, too - I wanted something that matched the theme, but still felt like us. I used the word "always," because that's how I sign all my notes to The Boy. I love it so much that it's currently hanging in our kitchen.
Briar Rose did our desserts, and they were wonderful. My cake was perfectly simple and elegant, and they went above and beyond on the design of the Groom's Cake.
If you don't recognize it, it's inspired by CS Lewis' "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe." We both love Lewis and Narnia, plus the snow was just perfect for January.
I provided them with the wardrobe, the lamp post (which lit up!), the packages, and the trees - they worked the magic to turn it into Narnia. We used a favorite Lewis quote on the cake board to tie it all together, "You have not chosen one another, but I have chosen you for one another."
Another favorite element was the Favor Table. We gave away hot cocoa which our guests could top with their favorite goodies - marshmallows, chocolate chips, sprinkles, and more.
At the end of the night, we handed out toss packets to all the guests. They were filled with birdseed for everyone to throw at us when we left.
Fun fact: I chose birdseed because that's what my parents' had at their wedding!
These last few shots are just of fun, additional details.
Our Flower Girl basket - filled with spray roses and baby's breath as well as Momma's first Bible.
And, the prettiest detail of the day: our rings.
Both of our rings are custom made. The Boy's family has an amazingly talented friend who makes jewelry. He designed a band to mimic the beautiful curves of my ring (which, if you don't know, was The Boy's Grandmother's - an antique from the 1890's), then helped us design a band for The Boy as well. I absolutely love how unique both rings are.
It was just the best day. I loved every detail! Thanks for reading, friends! Hope y'all enjoyed it, too.
