"Choo-choo! Look Who's Two!" A Train-themed Party

Two years ago our friends Mark and Jenny had the sweetest little baby boy - Luke.

Now that little baby boy is walking, talking, and looking far too much like a little boy than a baby.

Last week I had the privilege of helping Jenny throw him a birthday party. Not just any party would do, however. Not for Luke. This had to be a "Train party." A "Train party" with "Cakeday cake" (because birthdays in Luke world are known as "cakedays.")

Conveniently enough, Luke's collection of trains gave us a good start on the decor. Taking inspiration from the little guy, multiple Pinterest searches, and some quick brainstorm sessions, we put together a fabulous train party that didn't break the bank.

The kiddos loved it and the adults had a great time, too. We might have let Luke have one too many pieces of cake...but you only turn two once, right?

So, without further ado, Luke's Train Party:

The Decor
Welcome to Bradley Station!
I used black frames and printed photos of old trains to add a little extra
We laid "track" throughout the house for the ride-on train
We included official crossings with bars and even a tunnel at the end of the hall.
Choo-Choo! Look Who's Two!
Jenny had some fun antique train decor that added a nice flair

The Food
The food table, aka "Dining Car"

"Chew chew" cutlery sets
Our finger-food snack train: a log car (pretzels), a coal car (olives), a produce car (carrot & celery), and a ranch car (dip)
Our "Fueling Station": Water Tower, Disel Fuel options (soda & Capri Sun) and "Chugga chugga" cups
And of course, the "Cakeday" cake. Had a BLAST making this one.

The Party

We made him a felt board with trains & tracks - the Boy came up with the idea, I just put it together

"I stinkin' love you!"
Happy Birthday, Lukey Bear!
Had so much fun putting this party together! And seeing him enjoy it made it even better. Thanks for letting me be part of Luke's special day, Jenny!

Check back tomorrow for a few more details on that cake.

'Til then, friends!

  1. Can you share where you got the Thomas train you used for the food?

    1. Sure! The front is from a Thomas play set that our birthday boy had. The food cars are made from small boxes covered in construction paper!
